Middleburg to Matatiele – 24th February 2016

So we lost a day, a large amount of money, but we are still going strong!!!

None of us is very happy – there is an air of uncertainty that seems to loom over us like a moving cloud. The further we go though, the smaller the cloud gets, and soon we are passing through Steynsburg and on to Molteno.

What we don’t realise is that the AGA has also sustained quite a bit of damage as well, but as they say, what the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve.

The scenery along the route is simply stunning and the cloud formations are striking. The Karoo is, for me, one of most hauntingly beautiful places, which in its starkness, holds so much information. There is something inside me, which, whenever we pass through, that wants to hop out, disappear and spend ages just exploring.

The other half of me just can’t wait to get home and neither can Emmie and Freedom – we fly on until we reach Matatiele where we are booked into De Berg Guesthouse. The owners are professional and the accommodation is so clean and beautifully appointed. We always have a problem finding suitable accommodation when we are away, as to cut down costs to our clients, IMG_1105we make food at home before we leave, and then dish it up each evening, with sandwiches – sometimes quite curly – for lunch. So a self catering place has to be found at all costs, so that at least we can all have one hot meal a day.

The journey today has been long and tiring – around 510  kilometres and under a load of nearly one and a half tons, so the lights go out and the lids close….very gratefully.
